Poster Contest Winners 2005
"Explore and Embrace a Special Wild Place"

Do you have a special place you go to reflect, find peace and joy, or just get away from it all? Is it a quiet or noisy place? Do the sights and sounds of nature excite and rejuvenate you? Canada is home to many special wild places—national, provincial, and local parks, nature trails, migratory bird sanctuaries, wetlands, and vast expanses of protected wilderness areas. These places are as important to your well being as they are to the survival of the plants and animals that live there.

Join CWF and its partners as we help Canadians discover their special wild places during National Wildlife Week, April 10 - 16, 2005. We'll look at some of Canada’s most intriguing protected areas and special wild places. We'll even show you how you can turn your special place into a sanctuary for all kinds of wildlife—chickadees, chipmunks, hummingbirds, hares, butterflies and birds.

Barbara Campbell from the Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment Canada--Ontario Region coordinated the Poster Contest for the eleventh year and was Master of Ceremonies.

A request for submissions was sent to all schools in the English and French School Boards in Ottawa.  33 classes from 14 schools submitted 420 entries in the Poster Contest. Michael Leveillle entertained the children with his presentation.

The winning posters were displayed at the event and at the Wildlife Awareness Event at the Billings Bridge Plaza. Children are encouraged to enter the Poster Contest to enlighten them with respect to the needs of wildlife and how they can help conserve wildlife and wildlife habitat.
