National Capital Region Wildlife Festival

Wildlife Conservation Forums

These Forums take place annually as part of the Wildlife Festival, a regional celebration of National Wildlife Week. Each forum highlights current issues in wildlife conservation. Organisations and individuals are invited to share their knowledge and experience in a series of dynamic presentations. Other organisations participate by setting up exhibits which encourage dialogue and the sharing of resources. The overall goal of the forums is to encourage public engagement in wildlife conservation.

Resource documents are produced for each event and posted on this website. These events are sponsored by the OFNC/Fletcher Wildlife Garden, the Canadian Museum of Nature, Parks Canada and the Wildlife Festival.

Wednesday, April 30th / 2008 - POLLINATORS: FOR FOOD. FOR THE FUTURE.
The 2008 Forum will focus on Pollinators in Canada and will be on April 30, 2008 at the Museum of Nature.
One in every three bites of food we take can be attributed to the work of pollinators, but many people know very little about these amazing creatures. On April 30, 2008, the National Capital Region Wildlife Festival, in partnership with the Ottawa Field Naturalists' Club, Fletcher Wildlife Garden , the Canadian Museum of Nature, the Canadian Wildlife Federation, Parks Canada, and the Ottawa Stewardship Council, will present an evening dedicated exclusively to the birds and the bees. Three speakers, Josh Van Wieren, Dr. Peter Kevan and Maria MacRae, will each speak about the importance of pollinators by highlighting their role in three areas: the natural environment, agriculture, and gardening. In addition to the speaker's forum, there will be an exhibitor's area that will include organizations working to protect pollinators as well as organizations that benefit from the work of pollinators.
